Hereís a link to an article in the local online news:
http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/sport/Pack-Shutting-Stingrays-incredibly-tough-decision/article-2513570-detail/article.html

I suppose this might not be the end of the story. In the EPL, the Sheffield Scimitars almost folded before reinventing themselves as the Steeldogs, but they had a couple of months to sort themselves out. Hullís first game is on 4th Sept, so time is short. On the other hand, if someone can step in immediately (today - before the players sign elsewhere), everything is set up and ready to go.

One interesting point in the article is this: ďAlthough gate money was on target, Ďother incomeí like sponsorship fell nearly £100,000 short, while costs were £50,000 higher than expected.Ē

I think the Stingrays might not be the only team trying to live beyond their means and I have a feeling that increased costs and shortfalls in income are things that we are going to hear more about, across all the leagues, this season.

Surely this ends the "we should go EPL" argument??

Not necessarily. They have folded because they couldnt get the sponsorship in. IF a club in Gillingham, hopefully the Mos or A.N.Other club can get that money - either through patronage or through sponsorship then it is possible.
Do we need to do it and even do we want to do it is another discussion.

It now looks as if Hull Stingrays have been resuscitated, thanks to a rescue package put together by Coventry Blaze with suport from the former owners and local council.

This treats the symptom, and itís good that there will be EIHL hockey in Hull this season, but it hasnít cured the disease.

It also comes after some of the Hull players have gone elsewhere, so they may well have a really tough season on the ice, which usually results in poor attendances, which means less gate money which means no money to stregthen which means poorer results etc etc.

Think Hulll will be EPL at best next season!
