A couple of quotes from 2 different posters on THF:

Quote 1
Final score Slough 12 Invicta 2
Apparently it all kicked off in the third

Quote 2
It all kicked off as one of the Invicta players wanted to fight but didn't want to take his cage off!!!!!

Webb from Slough soon sorted that situation out, by dragging him around like he was a puppy on a lead.

If you are young and play in this league, ddon't go around giving it large hiding behind a cage. If you want to fight take the cage off.

Result should have been 20+ for Slough but they seemed to take their foot off of the gas and things got a bit choppy in the last.

I believe said Mustang "giving it large" was Harrison Lillis, in all of his first fight!!

Talking of hiding behind cages I am guessing Zoran Kovic got alot of thos 12 points... Guessing those gems were from Slough fans.

Don't think I've been so pissed off watching a game, possibly ever!!
2 parts to this review;

1st - Mustangs on the whole played badly and 12-2 could have been a whole lot worse. Some players just went missing altho some really did step up and played well - you need all lines to do that to win.

2nd - There were some scenes that were horrible. I've watched a helluva lot of hockey in the UK, Europe (incl some Russians!) and N America and don't think I've seen a worse display of cowardice and thuggery. To avoid really going into one about this I'll try and keep it brief. End of 1st and Slough Captain (I think) just wanted to fight over not much and after being dragged away got 10 minutes misconduct for his troubles.
Slough got progressively chippy - Later on 1 of their chief knuckleheads decided he wanted to fight (I think Richard Smith) who passed that up. Still tho' the knucklehead jumped him and attempted to pummel him while he was on the ice. This then progressed to another trying to "beat up" 77 (Harrison) who was then jumped by the knucklehead (so 3rd man in at least) and basically just beat him - again on the ice. A few fisticuffs elsewhere and eventually Drake comes onto the ice to drag off the knucklehead who I believe got something like 5+5+match.
Later another Slough goon tries to run Michael Stokes and he fails, after the puck is played he had another go at him (behind the play and in front of me) and Stokes punched him back. Then more of a wrestling match ensued with both getting a few punches in and the Slough guy losing his helmet. His response was to grip the visor of Stokes and shake it violently before freaking out and shouting when the lino finally stepped in.

So, a very brief summary. I don't think fighting is necessary in the game but recognize it happens. When 2 go at it then both agree - if someone hits the ice punches stop - if someone isn't interested it doesn't happen - if 2 are already engaged in fisticuffs 3rd man in is just a no no.

Seriously what I saw on Sunday night verged right on the edge of assault. Think Bertuzzi on Moore and that gives an idea of the cowardice and plain violence from the Slough knucklehead on Mustangs 77 et al.

The officials were out of control too (albeit one was a small 16 year old) but I'd be interested to hear what disciplinary action is taken against these idiots.

Yes it's a tough sport and yes sometimes that breaks out into fights but mindless thuggery has no place and that's what I saw on Sunday. Seriously, it was disgusting.
I also think this is a fair bi-partisan review and a lot calmer than it might have been if Id posted last night.

(Rant over - it could have gone on a lot longer)

Thanks for the write up.

Who'd have thought a Slough team would engage in mindless thuggery???

I'm not sure if the Jets do it, but it does seem to have been a consistent aspect of Slough's lower level teams (including some junior teams) over the years.

Lets hope they win the league, get promoted then have to try that against the bigger boys in ENL1. Poor display from Slough then.

Here's a link to the game sheet.

http://www.martyngreen.com/Games/Gamesheets/Jets%20V%20Invicta.pdf

There are some typos in the Mustangs' names, but the main point of interest is the stats for Slough.

#27 Weare 77 Pims
#68 Kozic 6+5

It's just a page on the ENL Jets website, so it only has their stuff.

Here's the link to the home page:
