As anticipated, Solent did not roll over in this match. They were constantly attacking and harrying our players throughout the game which had the effect of stifling any flow– scrappy would best describe the match.
Missing Osman/Baskerville/Wootton (T) /Lillis, the lines were clearly being moved about & changed and this was more obvious after Rehak took a penalty (for slashing, I think) and also a mis-demeanour which led to
his being gamed (a little unfairly in my opinion). On the upside, though, Jackson excelled with a hat-trick and eventually the team overcame the opposition. There was an intriguing end to the match when standing at 5-3 down, Solent decided to pull their net-minder in favour of 6 attacking players – and the crowd were treated to the sight of Fowler, in a clear and open position and with the luxury of time to frame the shot, (and it must be said with the Mos fans baying and gesticulating wildly about the empty net) of firing at the target, only to be denied as a Solent player managed to reach the puck in time. In fairness to Fowler, he was playing with a wrist injury which he picked-up last week, so clearly his usual power was diminished. |
